As we get ready to open the doors on the real-world MV Teddy Bear Suite at the Harbor View Hotel this coming weekend during Christmas in Edgartown, we’re happy to report that the online fundraising side of our annual holiday event raised $15,700 on Giving Tuesday. It is with gratitude that we thank everyone who helped make the opening day of our month-long fundraiser such a success. We are humbled by your generous support. Thank you! Our goal this year is $50,000. All the money we raise goes directly to Martha’s Vineyard Boys & Girls Club and its game-changing, after school food security program Beyond The Bell. We hope to fund most of the program from the fundraiser.
The Martha’s Vineyard Teddy Bear Suite Fundraiser Gets Off To A Great Start On Giving Tuesday – What Your Funding Supports
The Beyond the Bell Food Security program and its comprehensive safety net approach is having a big impact for children and their families here on the Island. We’ve seen it in action and it’s working. A few highlights:
- The program serves and supports hundreds of children a week
- It provides 1,000 healthy snacks a week
- Serves 450 meals every month
- Assists 40 – 50 families per month through their Blue Door Pantry, where families can pick up perishable food, non-perishable food, cleaning products, hygiene products, essential clothes, and more, at no cost to families

- Rescues 1,000 pounds of food surplus each week from local farms, markets, and food purveyors and redistributes it
