Organizers of the Martha’s Vineyard Teddy Bear Suite Fundraiser announced today, December 5th, that the Teddy Bear Trot Holiday Fun Run 5K will join the weekend festivities of Christmas In Edgartown. All proceeds from the race will go to the annual holiday fundraiser that supports the MV Boys & Girls Club.
The family friendly run on Sunday, December 11th, is being organized by the Martha’s Vineyard Hurricanes Youth Running Club, which is co-managed and coached by Kimberly Kirk and Reaan Steenkamp. The nonprofit group provides instruction and competitive running opportunities for middle school aged children on the island.
The Teddy Bear Trot Holiday Fun Run will begin at the Harbor View Hotel, continue through Edgartown out to the Katama General Store, then return through town and end at the Teddy Bear Suite at the Harbor View Hotel Captain Collins Cottage #20.
The holiday fun run is a timed race, and runners of all ages and skill levels are encouraged to participate, and dress as “festive” as possible. Entrance fee is $15 day of the race or $12 with early registration.
Race day registration begins at 9 a.m. on Sunday, December 11th. The Teddy Bear Trot start time is 10 a.m., with the fun run beginning at 9:45 a.m. Awards will be given for a variety of categories, including speed and best dressed.
This is the second year that the Teddy Bear Trot has been part of the Martha’s Vineyard Teddy Bear Suite Fundraiser. This year’s goal is $15,000, with all the money raised going to support the Happy Healthy Kids program, a new Boys & Girls Club initiative addressing childhood hunger on the Vineyard. In its first five years, the Martha’s Vineyard Teddy Bear Suite has raised $50,000.
The Hurricanes Running Club hopes to continue to grow the festive holiday race as part of the Teddy Bear Suite Fundraiser, while provide running opportunities and healthy lifestyle choices for island children. Student volunteers at the holiday race will be able to earn required community service hours for school.
